My Story Room

’The Play House’ was first published in Other Voices, Volume 7, Number 1, Spring 1994. The story was written after a friend showed me a picture of a doll house that a little girl had build just outside her mother’s home, where they lived on a garbage heap outside of Guatemala City. I had been to Guatemala shortly before and the thought of this little girl, replicating her home, touched me to the core.

I owe it to Gay Christophides for telling me a story, one day, about a little girl who became fascinated by little bottles.
